PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Chris Pronger isn't ready to retire, even though a concussion specialist has advised him not to return to hockey.
The former NHL MVP has not played for the Flyers since Nov. 19, 2011 and still suffers from lingering effects of multiple concussions. He says Thursday he's simply trying to get healthy and live a normal life, but he wouldn't rule out attempting a return if physically possible.
Pronger hadn't spoken publicly since Dec. 1, 2011. He says he still can't run, or even skate hard. He's bothered by bright lights and he's lost some of his peripheral vision.
The 38-year-old Pronger helped them reach the Stanley Cup Finals against Chicago in his first season with the Flyers in 2009-10. He played 50 games the following season and 13 last year.
