General manager Marc Bergevin has added to the Montreal Canadiens without altering his Eastern Conference-leading lineup.
In Detroit, Ken Holland provided his young team a nudge by adding two experienced veterans. As for the Toronto Maple Leafs, their long-expected purge of high-priced talent failed to materialize before the NHL’s trading deadline struck Monday.
Toronto made two trades, but none involving Joffrey Lupul or Dion Phaneuf. GM David Nonis said he was unable to get the right price.
That didn’t prevent others from staying busy on a day that featured 24 trades involving 43 players.
Montreal plugged several holes by making three trades. Detroit followed up the addition of Erik Cole by acquiring veteran defenseman Marek Zidlicky from New Jersey.
In the West, Anaheim led the way by making four trades.
