ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) -The first-place Washington Capitals have 20 games to iron out the kinks before the playoffs start.
Back from the Olympic break, the Capitals resume play Wednesday against the Buffalo Sabres. The game also falls on the day of the league’s trade deadline.
The Capitals have downplayed the possibility of making a big trade and instead want to make sure they have just the right momentum heading into the postseason.
Washington had a franchise-record 14-game winning streak in January and early February, then allowed 15 goals combined in three straight losses before the break. That prompted coach Bruce Boudreau to emphasize defense at practice the last few days.
