A person familiar with the trade says the Toronto Maple Leafs have agreed to acquire forward Brian Boyle from the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Monday because the deal had not yet been finalized. Further terms were not immediately known.
Boyle, 32, is a pending unrestricted free agent. He has 13 goals and nine assists in 54 games this season. In 603 NHL games, Boyle has 93 goals and 73 assists.
The native of Hingham, Massachusetts, is a defensive-minded forward who can win faceoffs and give Toronto depth. The trade signals more selling for Tampa Bay, which sent goaltender Ben Bishop to the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday.
TSN first reported the possible deal.
