SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -The San Jose Sharks are back at practice after the Olympic break with an old familiar face.
With both of their goaltenders taking part at the Olympics, the Sharks brought back former goalie Steve Shields for their first post-Olympic practice.
Shields has been working in Southern California developing a Web site to help coaches teach players. He talked about the project a few months ago with San Jose assistant general manager Wayne Thomas.
With goalies Evgeni Nabokov and Thomas Greiss taking part in the Olympics, Thomas asked Shields if he’d like to come back as a practice goalie for a couple days.
Shields played three seasons for the Sharks. He has been out of the NHL since playing five games for Atlanta in the 2005-06 season. He hadn’t played competitive hockey for three years.
