PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Former NHL MVP Peter Forsberg, who has not played since last season, could decide by Tuesday if he’s healthy enough to make a return to the league.
Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren expected Forsberg, who won two Stanley Cups with Colorado, to decide if he wants to resume his career after struggling with foot and ankle injuries.
“The last I heard is Peter is going to decide probably by Tuesday whether he’s going to play or not,” Holmgren said on Sunday.
The Flyers are certainly in the mix of teams interested in Forsberg. Forsberg spent 1 1/2 seasons in Philadelphia and was the team captain last season until he was traded to Nashville.
He also helped lead Sweden to Olympic gold medals in Lillehammer in 1994 and Turin in 2006.
Injuries have plagued him in recent years and he hasn’t played more than 60 games in a season since suiting up for 75 games in 2002-03 with the Avalanche.
