CHICAGO (AP) -The Blackhawks extended defenseman Brent Seabrook’s contract for three seasons Monday, locking in one of their core players.
He has seven goals and 12 assists this season.
“I love the city of Chicago and really enjoy playing for our great fans,” said Seabrook, the 14th pick in the 2003 entry draft.
The Blackhawks are contending for a Western Conference playoff spot with a 27-25-6 record. The young core features center Jonathan Toews and right wing Patrick Kane, two of the top scorers among NHL rookies.
“Seabrook is a big part of our team and one of our team leaders,” general manager Dale Tallon said. “He is going to be a major part of our success for many years to come.”
