CHICAGO (AP) -The Blackhawks extended defenseman Brent Seabrook's contract for three seasons Monday, locking in one of their core players.
He has seven goals and 12 assists this season.
``I love the city of Chicago and really enjoy playing for our great fans,'' said Seabrook, the 14th pick in the 2003 entry draft.
The Blackhawks are contending for a Western Conference playoff spot with a 27-25-6 record. The young core features center Jonathan Toews and right wing Patrick Kane, two of the top scorers among NHL rookies.
``Seabrook is a big part of our team and one of our team leaders,'' general manager Dale Tallon said. ``He is going to be a major part of our success for many years to come.''
