PITTSBURGH (AP) -Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Philippe Boucher is out indefinitely after undergoing left foot surgery on Saturday.
The Penguins acquired Boucher from Dallas for defenseman Darryl Sydor on Nov. 16, but Boucher has been limited to two goals and two assists in 23 games with Pittsburgh. He has not played since Jan. 30.
Boucher’s operation came on the same day defenseman Sergei Gonchar returned to the Penguins’ lineup after being out all season with a dislocated left shoulder. Coach Michel Therrien said Gonchar would make his 2008-09 season debut in Toronto on Saturday night.
Gonchar is the only NHL defenseman to get at least 50 points in each of the previous eight seasons.
Penguins forward Ruslan Fedotenko, out since breaking his right hand in a fight with Atlanta’s Colby Armstrong on Jan. 6, also was scheduled to play Saturday night.
