CHICAGO (AP) -Joel Quenneville had prepared for that time when hockey would no longer be part of his life, knowing his playing career would end and he might have to find a job outside the sport he loved.
In the summer of 1991, Quenneville got his first taste of coaching and he’s been going strong ever since.
Now at his third NHL head coaching stop with the Chicago Blackhawks, Quenneville is being credited with giving the young and talented team the direction it needs to go after a Stanley Cup.
Through Wednesday’s games, Chicago trailed only San Jose in the Western Conference standings – and was only six points behind NHL-leading Washington. The Blackhawks have a 14-point lead in the Central Division.
