NEW YORK (AP) New York Rangers centerman J.T. Miller scored for the ninth game in ten to lead the hosts to a 2-1 win against New Jersey on Monday, opening a six-point gap between the NHL Metropolitan Division rivals.
Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist made 27 saves as the Rangers strung together three successive wins for the first time in three months.
Also Monday, Pittsburgh continued its surge with a win against Anaheim, with Sidney Crosby again among the scorers.
New York’s Kevin Klein, who broke a thumb last week, scored for the first time in 28 games as the Rangers overcame the absence of captain Ryan McDonagh due to concussion and notched a fifth straight victory at Madison Square Garden.
Travis Zajac scored a short-handed goal with 2:17 left for the Devils, spoiling Lundqvist’s shutout bid.
Pittsburgh beat Anaheim 6-2, with Crosby scoring on a pair of breakaways to extend his goal streak to a career-best seven games and added two assists.
Crosby beat goalie John Gibson between the legs to give the Penguins a three-goal cushion in the second period and ripped one by Gibson’s glove early in the third.
Chris Kunitz, Conor Sheary, Carl Hagelin and Olli Maatta also scored for the Penguins, who have won six of seven. Crosby, mired in a slump early in the year, now has 53 points in 51 games.
Ryan Getzlaf and Patrick Maroon scored for the Ducks, who had won their previous six games.
Ottawa’s Mark Stone had two goals and an assist to lead the Senators to a 5-1 win against Tampa Bay.
Detroit’s Pavel Datsyuk scored twice in a 1:08 span midway through the third to steer the Red Wings to a 3-0 victory over Florida.
