TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Mike Smith, who has missed the past three games, is suffering from post-concussion syndrome. The team said Monday he may be able to return to the ice within a week.
“We were hopeful that Mike’s symptoms would clear sooner and they haven’t, so we’re taking a conservative approach with him making sure he is 100 percent before he returns to the ice,” general manager Brian Lawton said in a team statement. “Although Mike would prefer to be skating and playing right now, the appropriate course of action is to err on the safe side.”
Although Smith’s injury dates back several weeks, the goalie became concerned about symptoms after a game against the Philadelphia Flyers on Jan. 30.
In 41 games, Smith has a 14-18-9 record with a 2.62 goals-against average and .916 save percentage this season.
