WASHINGTON (AP) -The Washington Capitals have recalled goalie Michal Neuvirth from their AHL affiliate in Hershey to start against the Atlanta Thrashers.
Neuvirth was sent down to the AHL on Sunday for extra work while Jose Theodore started the past three games.
The Capitals also reassigned goalie Braden Holtby, who has yet to make his NHL debut, to Hershey.
Neuvirth is 8-4-0 and has won his last three starts for Washington. He has filled in for Semyon Varlamov, who has been sidelined since early December with knee and groin injuries. Washington coach Bruce Boudreau said Varlamov may start for Hershey on Saturday.
Washington carried a 12-game winning streak into Friday night’s game against Atlanta.
