ATLANTA (AP) -All-Star goaltender Carey Price returned Tuesday night for Montreal, replacing Jaroslav Halak early in the second period after the Canadiens fell behind 3-0 after facing 14 shots against the Atlanta Thrashers.
Unless he has a setback, Price is expected to play his first All-Star game Sunday in Montreal. The NHL’s fifth overall choice in the 2005 entry draft missed eight games with an ankle injury.
Price began the night 16-4 in 25 games this season, 40-16 in 66 games overall. The second-year veteran will join Canadiens teammates Andrei Markov, Mike Komisarek and Alex Kovalev and Pittsburgh stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin as Eastern Conference starters.
Montreal coach Guy Carbonneau has yet to decide whether Price or Halak will start when the Canadiens visit New Jersey on Wednesday.
