TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -Lightning rookie Steven Stamkos was out of the lineup for the second time in five games Saturday night as part of an ongoing program to increase his physical strength.
Stamkos, taken first overall in the 2008 draft, also sat out Tampa Bay’s game on Jan. 9 at Anaheim. In addition to conditioning workouts, the 18-year old forward is taking part in extra video sessions with the coaching staff.
Stamkos played in three games after missing the game against the Ducks, recording one goal and two assists. In 43 games overall, he has five goals and 12 assists.
The center is scheduled to play in the Lightning’s next game on Monday against Dallas.
