PITTSBURGH (AP) -Sidney Crosby sat out the Pittsburgh Penguins’ optional practice Thursday with an undisclosed injury, possibly to his left knee, but it may not keep him out of Friday’s game against Anaheim.
Crosby was injured while attempting to hit David Steckel of Washington late in the Penguins’ 6-3 loss on Wednesday night. Crosby had to be helped to the bench, then went to the locker room before the game ended.
Crosby may learn during the pregame skate Friday if he can play.
“You kind of have to find out exactly the nature of the injury and whether it’s going to hurt me to keep playing, even if it is painful, or there’s a lot more risk involved,” Crosby said.
Crosby, who underwent an MRI exam, said he doesn’t have much swelling.
“That’s a good thing,” he said. “You kind of have to see how you react when you’re out there on the ice. As far as the swelling goes, sometimes things flare up a little bit more, so you have to be careful.”
It was a year ago Sunday that Crosby sustained a high ankle sprain against Tampa Bay that forced him to miss nearly two months.
x Talbot (undisclosed injury) and defenseman Rob Scuderi (facial injury) also did not practice after being injured during the Penguins’ eighth loss in 10 games.
