Carolina earned a 4-0 shutout victory Saturday at Calgary to improve to 20-11-2 on the season. James Reimer stopped all 32 shots sent his way in the stellar effort between the pipes. After a scoreless first period, Brock McGinn gave the Hurricanes a 1-0 advantage with 7:25 left in the second period on a goal assisted by Jordan Martinook and Julien Gauthier. Dougie Hamilton made it 2-0 on the power play a minute later with assists going to Teuvo Teravainen and Sebastian Aho. Warren Foegele extended the advantage with a shorthanded goal at the 4:55 mark of the third period with assists going to Martinook and Brett Pesce. Foegele added another shorthanded goal with three seconds remaining on a Teravainen assist.
Jets blast Flyers
Winnipeg dominated visiting Philadelphia to the tune of 7-3 Sunday to improve to 20-11-2 on the season. Nikolaj Ehlers gave the Jets a 1-0 lead almost five minutes into the first period with assists courtesy of Jack Roslovic and Blake Wheeler. Luca Sbisa pushed it to 2-0 later in the first with assists going to Neal Pionk and Adam Lowry. After the Flyers trimmed it to 2-1 in the second period, Winnipeg answered midway through the period on a Wheeler power play tally with assists from John Morrissey and Mark Scheifele. Scheifele added another power play goal less than three minutes later off Wheeler and Pionk assists. Logan Shaw pushed it to 5-1 a little over a minute later with assists from Nick Shore and Gabriel Bourque. Patrik Laine made it 6-1 16 seconds later off a Kyle Connor assist. Philadelphia got one goal back as the score was 6-2 through 40 minutes. Connor scored on the power play with 13:17 to play in the third period to complete the Jets’ scoring off assists by Scheifele and Pionk. The Flyers scored their final goal a few minutes later. Connor Hellebuyck secured 29 saves on 32 attempts in the winning effort.
NHL Betting Trends
Carolina
The Hurricanes are 4-1 in their last five games overall. Carolina is 5-2 in its last seven Tuesday games.
Winnipeg
The Jets are 10-4 in their last 14 games overall. Winnipeg is 4-0 in the last four meetings.
Prediction:
Carolina might have had an extra day of preparation, but it is also on the road while the Jets remained at home after Sunday’s lopsided win. I like the home dogs here, especially when you see the success Winnipeg has had against the Hurricanes the last couple of seasons. The Jets’ offense is clicking on all cylinders right now and while I certainly don’t expect the same kind of goal output, I think they will manufacture enough to get another home win.
