Canucks down Caps in shootout
Vancouver secured a 2-1 victory in a shootout at Washington Saturday to improve to 12-8-4 on the season. Bo Horvat was the only player in the shootout to find the back of the net to send the Canucks to the win. The Capitals took a 1-0 advantage 2:22 into the contest, but Vancouver tied it up with six minutes to go in the first on an Elias Pettersson power play goal assisted by J.T. Miller and Quinn Hughes. Jacob Markstrom made 32 saves on 33 shots in the winning effort.
Flyers fall to Flames in shootout
Philadelphia lost 3-2 at home in a shootout Saturday night versus Calgary to drop to 11-7-5 on the season. The Flyers lost the shootout by a count of 1-0. Philadelphia took a 1-0 advantage with 6:26 left in the second period on a Jakub Vrana goal assisted by Travis Sanheim and Sean Couturier. Calgary tied it up at 1-1 early in the third period, but the Flyers grabbed the lead again with 3:46 to play on a Kevin Hayes on an assist from Joel Farabee. Carter Hart gave up two goals on 27 shots in the defeat.
NHL Betting Trends
Vancouver
The Canucks are 18-40 in their last 58 games versus the Metropolitan Division. Vancouver is 3-7 in its last 10 games overall.
Philadelphia
The Flyers are 5-1 in their last six Monday games. The favorite is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings.
Prediction:
Vancouver manufactured a huge win at Washington a couple days ago, but I think a letdown is in order here. The Canucks are likely road-weary at this point and the Flyers were able to stay in the comfort of their own homes the last couple days. Philadelphia will want to bounce back from a tough shootout loss and the formula is set up here for that to happen.
