Eichel, Sabres double up Senators
Buffalo earned a 4-2 home win Saturday night over Ottawa to improve to 9-6-3 on the season. After a scoreless first period, Jack Eichel put the Sabres on the board 1:28 into the second period off assists from Sam Reinhart and Rasmus Dahlin. The Senators evened it at 1-1 less than five minutes later, but at the 10:21 mark of the second an Eichel goal assisted by Victor Olofsson and Reinhart gave Buffalo the lead again. Ottawa tied it again at 2-2 2:01 into the third period, yet Eichel completed his hat trick with 7:47 remaining off an assist from Jeff Skinner to put the Sabres back ahead at 3-2. Eichel scored his fourth goal of the contest unassisted on an empty net with 14 seconds left to complete the win. Linas Ullmark recorded 21 saves on 23 shots to pick up the win.
Blackhawks dominate Predators
Chicago earned a 7-2 victory Saturday night at Nashville to improve to 8-7-4 on the season. Erik Gustafsson opened the scoring 6:33 into the game with an assist going to Jonathan Toews. Dominik Kubalik pushed it to 2-0 with under two minutes to go in the first on an assist by Kirby Dach. Brent Seabrook made it 3-0 less than two minutes into the second period with assists going to Patrick Kane and Dylan Strome. David Kampf made it 4-0 later in the second period on assists by Olli Maatta and Andrew Shaw. The Predators got on the board 3:40 into the third period, but the Blackhawks answered on a Kane goal at the 10:51 mark on an assist from Alex DeBrincat. Alexander Nylander made 6-1 with 5:58 remaining on assists from Toews and Brandon Saad. Nylander scored again a few minutes later on another Saad assist to extend the advantage to six goals. Nashville scored its second goal with just over a minute remaining. Robin Lehner registered 39 saves on 41 shots in the winning effort.
NHL Betting Trends
Buffalo
The Sabres are 16-35 in their last 51 games as an underdog. Buffalo is 16-37 in its last 53 road games.
Chicago
The Blackhawks are 4-1 in their last five games overall. Chicago is 4-1 in its last five Sunday games.
Prediction:
It would be nice if Eichel could get a little help in the scoring division, but it was encouraging for Buffalo to finally get back on the winning side of the coin. The Blackhawks have played better as of late, but are still vulnerable and I look for a big return to earth after last night’s blowout win at Nashville. I like the plus money on Buffalo here as I trust its goaltending situation and back end a little more than Chicago’s.
