Coyotes rally past Devils
Arizona earned a 5-3 victory Friday night at New Jersey to improve to 6-3-1 on the season. The Coyotes trailed 2-0 in the first period before a Nick Schmaltz goal with 17 seconds remaining on assists from Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Jason Demers. Michael Grabner tied it at 2-2 2:01 into the second period on a shorthanded goal on an assist from Demers. The Devils took the lead again at 3-2 with 6:53 left in the second, but 31 seconds later an Ekman-Larsson goal off an assist by Lawson Crouse tied it back up. Barrett Hayton gave Arizona its first lead 1:45 into the third period with Schmaltz assisting. Clayton Keller added an insurance goal with 1:40 remaining with assists going to Phil Kessel and Demers. Antti Raanta picked up the win as he gave up three goals on 35 shots.
Sabres shut out Red Wings
Buffalo secured a 2-0 shutout win Friday night at Dallas to move to 9-2-1 on the season. Jake McCabe broke a scoreless tie with 8:20 left in the second period on a goal assisted by Sam Reinhart and Jack Eichel. Sam Reinhart made it 2-0 on a powerplay goal 1:15 into the third period off assists from Victor Olofsson and Eichel. Linas Ullmark recorded the shutout as he stopped all 41 shots sent his way.
NHL Betting Trends
Arizona
The Coyotes are 4-0 in their last four games on two days of rest. Arizona is 6-2 in its last eight games as an underdog.
Buffalo
The Sabres are 6-0 in their last six home games. Buffalo is 4-1 in its last five games versus the Western Conference.
Prediction:
Buffalo has been great at home and pretty darn good overall, while the Coyotes have been very good offensively and will provide a tough test. With the Coyotes having already been on the East Coast over the weekend, travel and rest shouldn’t be much of an issue. Arizona will have its top goalie in net and are playing like a team ready to make a playoff push this season. I’m taking a shot on Arizona getting the job done as road dogs.
