Flames Season Odds
Can all of the individual star power come together this season so the Calgary Flames can make a run? Oddsmakers have established the Flames’ odds to win the 2009 Stanley Cup at 25/1.
As previously noted, the Flames have a ton of star power on their roster. Right wing Jarome Iginla is coming off a 50-goal season, while defenseman Dion Phaneuf finished with 60 points last year. And goalie Miikka Kiprusoff is arguably the best stopper in the Northwest Division.
Calgary also has an up-and-comer in 19-year old center Mikael Backlund. The first round-pick is the best offensive prospect the club has and he has top end speed. But he’s probably not going to make the club this year and the team will instead try to bring him along slowly.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have listed the Flames’ odds to win the 2009 Stanley Cup at 22/1. Bodog has Calgary at 25/1, while Sportsbook.com gives the Flames a 15/1 shot.
If the Flames could come together as a group, they’d be dangerous. Along with stars Iginla, Phaneuf and Kiprusoff, defenseman Robyn Regehr and center Daymond Langkow offer a solid supporting role. But all of this individual talent must gel if the Flames are going to make a run at the Stanley Cup this season. Perhaps the club’s biggest weakness is on special teams, although the offense and goaltending situations should no doubt carry them to the postseason. This could be a dangerous team if things fall right this season.
