Leafs to eat salary in a Kessel trade?
TORONTO, CANADA (The Spread) – According to Sportsnet.ca, the Maple Leafs are willing to take back some salary in efforts to trade Phil Kessel.
With the Leafs set to embark on a long rebuilding process, it makes sense that they would be willing to eat some of Kessel’s contract if they’re able to acquire a package of draft picks and youngsters with potential. Other teams might not be willing to part with picks and/or promising young players while also having to pay Kessel top dollar, but if Toronto is willing to take back some of his contract then it gives interested parties more incentive.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book GT Bets, the Maple Leafs are 66/1 long shots to win the 2016 Stanley Cup. Toronto has only made the playoffs once since the 2003-04 season, which produced a loss in the 2012-13 NHL Conference Quarter-Finals.
