The Oilers took a 2-0 lead in the series thanks to a 2-1 win in Game 2. They have won the two games by a combined score of 7-4. Edmonton is now 53-27-10 overall and 27-12-5 at home while the Ducks are 50-25-13 overall and 19-15-9 on the road.
Edmonton never trailed in Game 2, as Andrej Sekera scored in the first minute of the game. Patrick Maroon then added an insurance goal in the second period. The Ducks produced 40 shots in the loss, with only Jakob Silfverberg finding the net in the second period. Cam Talbot came through with 39 saves to stop the Ducks. John Gibson had another shaky effort, stopping just 21 shots in the loss.
The Oilers seem to have the Ducks’ number right now. They have won five of the last six against Anaheim and now return home with a 2-0 series lead. Gibson has really not looked great so far in the series and I don’t see that changing in Edmonton. The Oilers probably can’t afford to allow 40 shots if they want to win again, but I think they find a way to improve their defensive effort.
