Detroit surprised Tampa Bay with a 3-2 win on Thursday in Game 1. The Wings got the victory despite being outshot by the Lightning, 46-14. Tampa also had a 38-25 edge in hits and 37-26 edge in faceoffs. Pavel Datsyuk had two goals for Detroit in the win while Luke Glendening had a shorthanded goal for the game-winner. Detroit goalie Petr Mrazek made 44 saves in the victory.
