The Ducks are the top seed in the Pacific region while Dallas is the No. 4 seed in the region despite playing in the Central Division. Dallas earned the final wild card playoff spot. According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Ducks are the favorite to win this series, as they have odds of -185 to win, while the Stars have a money line of +160 to prevail.

Anaheim won the Pacific Division title this year, going 54-20-8, earning a total of 116 points. The Ducks went 29-8-4 at home this season, which was the most wins of any Western Conference team at home. The Ducks were 25-12-4 on the road. Anaheim scored a total of 266 goals this year while allowing 209. The 266 goals was the second most of any team in the NHL.

Dallas was 40-31-11 this season, earning a total of 91 points. Dallas was 23-11-7 at home this season while going 17-20-4 on the road. The Stars scored 235 goals on the season, but allowed 228, which was most of any team in the Western Conference.

These two teams met three times during the regular season, with Dallas actually winning two of the three meetings. All of the games were decided by at least two goals. The Stars scored 11 goals against the Ducks this year while Anaheim posted 9 goals on Dallas. The two hit the over in two of the three games this year. Dallas has won six of its last 10 games against Anaheim.
