Flames fall in OT
Calgary was unable to take a decisive series lead Saturday night as it dropped a 3-2 overtime decision at home against Colorado in Game 2. After a scoreless first period, the Avalanche grabbed the 1-0 advantage in the second period. But the Flames evened it back up with 7:34 remaining in the second on a Rasmus Andersson power play goal assisted by Sam Bennett and Mikael Backlund. Sean Monahan put Calgary ahead at 2-1 with 7:33 left in the third period on a goal assisted by Bennett and Johnny Gaudreau. The Avs proceeded to score the tying goal later in the third before winning it in OT. Mike Smith recorded 36 saves on 39 shots in the defeat.
MacKinnon wins it for Avs
Nathan MacKinnon scored the game-winning goal at the 11:33 mark of the first overtime Saturday night to send Colorado to a 3-2 overtime victory at the Flames. It was assisted by Mikko Rantanen and Ian Cole. Following a scoreless first period, Matt Nieto scored an unassisted shorthanded goal with 12:44 left in the second period to put the Avalanche up 1-0. After Calgary went ahead 2-1 in the third period, a goal by J.T. Compher with 2:39 remaining evened it back up at 2-2. Assists on the Compher goal were rewarded to Gabriel Landeskog and Rattanen. Philipp Grubauer accounted for 35 saves on 37 shots in the winning effort.

Prediction:
Calgary was a big favorite in Game 2 but could not finish the job and now are in danger of going behind in the series on the road. But I don’t think that happens. The Flames racked up 107 points for a reason and I think the OT home loss will be a bit of a wakeup call that the Avs aren’t going to go easily. Calgary has done well as a favorite this season and I am betting on it to get the job done here.
