Boston took Game 1 of the series on Wednesday, 2-1. That snapped a six-game losing streak to the Senators. Boston is now 45-31-7 overall and 22-14-6 on the road while Ottawa is 44-29-10 overall and 22-12-8 at home.
Wednesday’s contest was pretty even in many ways. The Senators had a 27-25 edge in shots while both teams won 26 faceoffs. The issue for the Senators was they had 14 giveaways while Boston had just five. Ottawa managed a 1-0 lead when Bobby Ryan scored in the second period, but the Bruins answered with two goals in the third. Frank Vatrano scored 4:55 in and then Brad Marchand had the game-winner with just under three minutes to play.
Ottawa did some good things in Game 1, just came up short. Today, I expect the Senators to play with a little more urgency. They can’t afford to fall behind 2-0 in the series heading to Boston. The Bruins are also still dealing with some injuries to their regular players, so the depth isn’t what it could be. Boston could take its foot off the gas a little this afternoon, knowing it got the 1 road win in wanted.
