Golden Knights double up Oilers
Las Vegas posted a 6-3 home victory Sunday night over Edmonton to improve to 40-27-5 on the season. The Golden Knights took a 1-0 lead 5:40 in as Mark Stone scored on an assist by William Karlsson. After the Oilers tied it up, Las Vegas grabbed a 2-1 lead with 55 seconds left in the first period as Cody Eakin scored on assists from Tomas Nosek and Ryan Carpenter. Edmonton again tied the game in the first minute of the second period, but the Golden Knights took the lead again less than two minutes later on a Jonathan Marchessault scored with assists going to Karlsson and Reilly Smith. Marchessault added his 22nd goal of the season 40 seconds into the third period on a Smith assist to make it 4-2. Edmonton got one goal back, but Las Vegas went ahead by two goals again on a Brayden McNabb goal midway through the third. Shea Theodore and Ryan Reaves assisted on the tally. Alex Tuch added an insurance goal later in the third. Malcolm Subban gave up three goals on 19 shots in the win.
Sharks fall to Predators
San Jose lost 4-2 at home to Nashville Saturday night for its second straight defeat to drop to 43-21-8 on the season. The Sharks fell behind 1-0 through one period, but tied it up 4:09 into the second period on a Timo Meier goal assisted by Joe Pavelski and Joakim Ryan. The Predators went ahead again 24 seconds later, but San Jose tied it at 2-2 late in the second on a Joe Thornton goal assisted by Brent Burns plus Marc-Edouard Vlasic. Nashville went back ahead with 12:58 left in the third period and later added an insurance tally. Martin Jones surrendered three goals on 29 shots in the losing effort.

Prediction:
As much as I’d like to ride the underdog, I don’t think it’s the smart play here. Las Vegas is on a back-to-back and stepping into the arena of a good team on a two-game losing skid. San Jose is going to be hungry for a win and isn’t far removed from being red-hot. Look for the Sharks to get back to their winning ways tonight as the more rested team coming in.
