Capitals edged by Islanders
Washington dropped a 4-3 decision at home versus New York Tuesday night to drop to 27-9-5 on the season. The Capitals fell behind 2-0 in the first period before Evgeny Kuznetsov put the hosts on the board midway through the period on a goal assisted by Dmitry Orlov. Tom Wilson tied it up at the 5:43 mark with assists from Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin. Kuznetsov put Washington ahead 3-2 off a T.J. Oshie assist 44 seconds into the third period. The Islanders scored twice the rest of the period and held on the rest of the way. Braden Holtby took the loss as he surrendered four goals on 22 shots.
Hurricanes get past Canadiens
Carolina secured a 3-1 home win Tuesday night over Montreal to improve to 24-14-2 on the season. Sebastian Aho gave the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead 1:55 into the contest on the power play off assists from Erik Haula and Teuvo Teravainen. The Canadiens tied it up later in the first, but Carolina took the lead again on a Haula goal in the second period with Brett Pesce and Teravainen assisting. Ryan Dzingel added an empty-net insurance goal in the game’s final minute with assists going to Lucas Wallmark and Dougie Hamilton. Petr Mrazek registered the win between the pipes as he recorded 29 saves on 30 shots.
NHL Betting Trends
Washington
The Capitals are 7-2 in their last nine games as an underdog. Washington is 40-13 in its last 53 Friday games.
Carolina
The Hurricanes are 4-1 in their last five home games. Carolina is 4-0 in the last four home meetings.
Prediction:
The Hurricanes have had the Capitals’ number since last season’s playoffs, especially on their home ice. Washington has to be bubbling mad and a bit frustrated that it hasn’t been able to solve Carolina very often. With both teams having the same amount of rest and the Caps needing a win a little bit more considering their two-game losing streak, I’m going to say they find a way to the win here. Washington has been playing as well as anyone in the NHL much of this season and it’s difficult to not like the plus money.
