HOUSTON (AP) – Texans Pro Bowl receiver Andre Johnson will miss Houston’s season finale against Jacksonville and will have arthroscopic surgery on his right ankle next week.
Johnson sprained his ankle in Week 2, and the injury has gotten progressively worse. He sat out last week’s 24-23 loss to Denver and hasn’t practiced this week.
Johnson was selected to the Pro Bowl for the fifth time this week but doubts he’ll play because of the injury.
The Texans (5-10) have lost eight of nine. If the team had more on the line Sunday, Johnson says he would have tried to play. Instead, Johnson says he and the team are “being smart about the situation” and avoiding the possibility of aggravating the injury.
