LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) – The Chicago Bears have reached the playoffs on a 7-1 run headed into the regular-season finale at Green Bay. And they’ve done it with better play from the offensive line.
The line still ranks dead last in the NFL and has allowed a league-leading 50 sacks. Still, quarterback Jay Cutler has been sacked 19 times in the past eight games, compared with 27 before the bye week. And running back Matt Forte is averaging 4.7 yards per carry over the past eight games.
Cutler was sacked nine times in the first half of a loss to the New York Giants back in early October. It started an ugly slide in which they dropped three of four heading into the bye week.
