EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) -Brett Favre’s relationship with coach Brad Childress has been getting all the headlines lately. But it’s the Vikings’ struggles on defense that have contributed to their recent slide.
The Vikings have lost three of their last four games and no longer control their own destiny for the second seed in the NFC playoffs. Their veteran defense has given up 92 points combined in those three losses to the Cardinals, Panthers and Bears.
Pro Bowl cornerback Antoine Winfield has been torched by Steve Smith and Devin Aromashodu in consecutive games. Defensive end Jared Allen only has one sack in the last four games and says the defense is solely to blame for Monday night’s 36-30 overtime loss in Chicago.
