HOUSTON (AP) – Texans coach Gary Kubiak still hasn’t figured out why his team starts games so slowly. Neither have his players, for that matter, and it’s too late to fix the problem in time to salvage yet another disappointing season.
Houston was eliminated from playoff contention with a 31-17 loss to Tennessee last Sunday, doomed by another rotten first half.
The Texans (5-9) have lost seven of their last eight, and trailed in the first half each time. They’ve been outscored 96-36 in the first quarter and 218-114 in opening halfs this season.
Houston plays at Denver (3-11), another slow-starting team, on Sunday. The Broncos have been outscored 195-139 in the first half this season.
