EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) – Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson spoke out in support of two New York City police officers killed Saturday, saying ”innocent blood was spilled.”
Richardson, from the St. Louis area, had been critical of the grand jury in Ferguson, Missouri, which didn’t indict officer Darren Wilson in the killing of Michael Brown on Aug. 9. After the Jets’ 17-16 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday, Richardson says no officer deserves to die, and murdering ”innocent cops” is ”not the way to go.”
Jets center Nick Mangold wore a black NYPD cap while walking into MetLife Stadium, and held it to his heart during the singing of the national anthem.
Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu were shot while sitting in their patrol car in Brooklyn.
