MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Pat Williams’ streak of 72 straight games started – and 110 consecutive games played – officially ended Sunday when he was placed on the inactive list.
Williams has a broken bone in his right shoulder and is out at least a couple of weeks. His last non-start was Oct. 24, 2004, against Baltimore when he played for Buffalo. His last absence was for the Bills in 2001, when he missed the final three games of the season because of an injury to his left leg.
Also out for the Vikings against Atlanta was offensive lineman Artis Hicks, who has a partially torn triceps muscle in his right arm and has missed three of the last four weeks. Ryan Cook got the start at right tackle.
Kickoff returner Darius Reynaud was also inactive because of a sprained right big toe, but defensive end Jared Allen (sprained left knee) and quarterback Gus Frerotte (back) were suited up, as anticipated. Tarvaris Jackson has replaced Frerotte as the starter.
For the Falcons, defensive end John Abraham was listed as questionable this week with quadriceps and shoulder injuries, but was in Sunday’s lineup as expected. Todd Weiner got the start at left tackle instead of Sam Baker, though both players were active.
