CINCINNATI (AP) – Terrell Owens is having surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee, ending his season.
The Bengals receiver hurt the knee a couple of weeks ago, but kept playing. He aggravated it while making a cut on the opening series of a 19-17 win over Cleveland on Sunday and left the field.
Owens flew to Birmingham, Ala., to be examined by Dr. James Andrews on Monday. He tweeted that he was going to have surgery later in the day.
The 37-year-old receiver has been one of the league’s most productive receivers, ranking in the top 10 in catches and yards. He hopes to play for two or three more years. He joined the Bengals on a one-year contract and is a free agent after the season.
