FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez’s status for the team’s game against Atlanta remained uncertain Wednesday after he returned to practice for the first time since spraining his right knee.
Coach Rex Ryan said he wants to hold off on making a decision on a starter for the game Sunday until the team sees how Sanchez feels Thursday morning. Ryan said Sanchez felt good and looked good, but he doesn’t want to rush the rookie back on the field.
Sanchez will be examined by team doctors Thursday to make sure there’s no stiffness or swelling in the knee. Ryan would like to make a decision as soon as possible, but added that he might not even know for sure Thursday whether Sanchez will start against the Falcons at the Meadowlands.

Wearing short sleeves despite near-freezing temperatures, Sanchez appeared unimpeded by the injury that sidelined him for New York’s 26-3 win at Tampa Bay on Sunday.
Sanchez was hurt during the Jets’ win over the Bills in Toronto, and spent last week rehabilitating at the team’s facility. He didn’t travel with the team to Tampa Bay.
Clemens started in Sanchez’s place, going 12 for 23 for 111 yards and no turnovers.
