ASHBURN, Va. (AP) – The Washington Redskins have cut the holder who mishandled the extra point attempt in the one-point loss to Tampa Bay.
The Redskins on Tuesday waived punter Hunter Smith and replaced him with Sam Paulescu, who takes over as both punter and holder.
Smith let the snap go through his hands Sunday when the Redskins were attempting the extra point that would have tied the game with 9 seconds to play against the Buccaneers. Tampa Bay won 17-16.
Smith was also struggling as a punter. His gross average of 40.5 ranks 30th in the NFL, and his net average of 33.7 yards ranks 31st.
Paulescu punted in one game for the Redskins last year.
