ASHBURN, Va. (AP)-The Washington Redskins signed former Maryland quarterback Sam Hollenbach to the practice squad Friday.
The Redskins signed Hollenbach during the offseason but released him before the start of training camp.
Quarterback Jason Fife, signed to the practice squad Tuesday, was released to make room for Hollenbach.
The Redskins began looking for an extra quarterback after Jason Campbell dislocated a kneecap in last week’s game against Chicago. Campbell is expected to be sidelined four weeks.
Todd Collins will start Sunday’s game against the New York Giants, with Mark Brunell as the backup. Hollenbach will not be eligible to play unless he is added to the active roster, so receiver Antwaan Randle El has prepared this week as the emergency quarterback.
