FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) – New York Jets coach Rex Ryan is standing by Mark Sanchez a day after he considered benching his struggling quarterback.
Ryan says Monday that Sanchez needs to improve in a hurry, but gave him a vote of confidence. Ryan says Sanchez “is our quarterback, he’s my quarterback” despite another poor showing in the Jets’ 10-6 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
Sanchez was 17 of 44 for 216 yards and an interception, his 12th of the season. After not throwing an interception in his first five games, Sanchez has at least one in each of the last eight.
Ryan said Sunday he thought about yanking Sanchez in the third quarter Sunday, but reiterated that he’ll “always be our quarterback” and the team will go as far as he takes it.
