WASHINGTON (AP) – Washington Redskins general manager Bruce Allen says it was a coincidence that Albert Haynesworth’s four-game suspension came with four games left in the season.
Haynesworth this week was given the longest suspension possible under the terms of the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, and it just so happened it is long enough to keep him from returning this season.
Allen said Thursday night that it “really wasn’t part of the decision” to wait until four games were left to suspend Haynesworth. He said the action was taken this week because “that was the appropriate time.”
Allen said he was the one who informed owner Dan Snyder that Haynesworth was being suspended, but only after the decision had been made.
