RENTON, Wash. (AP) – For once, Marshawn Lynch didn’t need to dance around, waiting and hoping for a hole to emerge.
Seattle’s lagging ground game, ranked 32nd in the NFL entering last week, finally provided a little punch against Carolina.
With Seattle’s offensive line intact for the first time in weeks and offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates committed to the run, Lynch rushed for 83 yards and three TDs last week against Carolina. Seattle finished with a season-best 161 yards rushing.
It may not seem like much, but it was a huge step forward for one of the worst rushing offenses in the NFL.
Seattle had been committed to the pass in previous weeks, so establishing the run game became secondary. But the performance against the Panthers is more how Pete Carroll wants his offense to look.
