GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -The string of 47 consecutive starts by Alex Barron came to an end on Sunday when the St. Louis offensive tackle was inactive for the Rams' game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Barron was benched for being late to a team meeting on Friday. Coach Jim Haslett started Adam Goldberg in Barron's place.
Barron, a first-round draft pick in 2005, started the final three games of his rookie season and had been in the opening lineup since. The last time he didn't start was on Dec. 11, 2005.
Former starting cornerback Eric Green was inactive for the Cardinals. Green is not injured but has fallen out of favor of coach Ken Whisenhunt and is considered Arizona's fifth cornerback.
