NEW YORK (AP) – Comments on the Dallas Cowboys by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):
DALLAS COWBOYS (15)
Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 9): Do Cowboys have what it takes to win in crunch time?
Bob Glauber (Newsday, 11): Dallas hopes recurring problems with Dez Bryant don’t stand in way of resurgence in NFC East, but it’s awfully crowded at top of division.
Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 12): Rob Ryan’s defense too exotic to play without cornerbacks. Now he has them.
Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 14): Secondary is improved, they have playmakers, but still not sold on Cowboys delivering in clutch.
John Lynch (Fox Sports, 15): Romo needs to perform when it matters most. Rob Ryan’s defense will benefit from big boost to struggling secondary from cornerback acquisitions Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne. Someone on this defense not named DeMarcus Ware needs to wreak havoc.
Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 16): Cowboys installed major upgrades in secondary in cornerbacks Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne, but Tony Romo is really going to miss WR Laurent Robinson.
Clark Judge (CBSSports.com, 18): Third-best team in NFC East.
Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 18): It’s all about leadership – where is it?
Chris Berman (ESPN, 18): Romo not the problem: How about protecting lead?
Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 19): Until Cowboys find way to consistently win in clutch, this team won’t be back in playoffs.
Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 19): Cowboys were pretty good team for most of last season, but did not play well late.
Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/CBSSports.com, 20): Tony Romo is not problem in Dallas, but he has weight of team on his shoulders. Dallas has to find way to win in NFC East; Cowboys are 5-7 over past two years.
