JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -The Jaguars re-signed first-year tight end Isaac Smolko to the active roster Friday after losing two tight ends earlier this week.
The 6-foot-5, 260-pound Smolko has spent 10 weeks on the Jaguars’ practice squad. He played in one game at New Orleans this season.
The Jaguars placed George Wrighster and Greg Estandia on the injured reserve Monday, a significant setback for an offense that uses multiple tight ends in nearly every formation.
Wrighster tore a ligament in his right knee during Sunday’s 36-14 win over Buffalo, and Estandia injured his shoulder.
Both players will have season-ending surgery.
The Jaguars initially filled their roster spots by re-signing tight end Richard Angulo and claiming linebacker Leon Joe off waivers from Buffalo. The team waived Joe on Friday when it re-signed Smolko.
