Randy Moss was supposed to be the receiver who stretched out defenses and gave the New England Patriots a deep threat.
Deion Branch proved there’s more than one way to score on a long pass.
Branch scored on a twisting, cutting, 79-yard pass from Tom Brady to tie the game, then added another TD catch to take the lead as the Patriots beat the Detroit Lions 45-24 on Thanksgiving Day.
The win was New England’s sixth in seven games since acquiring Branch from the Seattle Seahawks. That sets up a big Monday night game on Dec. 6 against the New York Jets, who are tied with the Patriots atop the AFC East at 9-2.
Branch had three catches for 113 yards, his best performance in yards receiving since 2007.
