BEREA, Ohio (AP) -Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Colt McCoy is not practicing because of a high ankle sprain that may keep him out of Sunday’s game against Carolina.
McCoy suffered the sprain in Sunday’s loss at Jacksonville. Browns coach Eric Mangini said the team is not at the point of ruling McCoy out this week, but veteran Jake Delhomme will get the majority of practice snaps with Cleveland’s starting offense.
If McCoy can’t play, and it appears he will be out at least one week, Mangini said he’s leaning toward starting Delhomme against the Panthers. Delhomme spent seven seasons with Carolina before being waived and signing as a free agent by the Browns.
Delhomme suffered a high ankle sprain in the opener, re-injured it on Oct. 10 and hasn’t played since.
