ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) -The Broncos have promoted running back Lance Ball from their practice squad as a pre-emptive strike because of interest from other NFL teams.
To make room on the roster Wednesday, Denver waived tight end Daniel Coats one day after signing him. Coats, who spent his first three-plus seasons in Cincinnati, participated in one practice with the Broncos before his departure.
Ball, a second-year pro from Maryland, has played in one NFL game, registering 83 yards on 13 carries as a rookie for Indianapolis in the 2008 regular season-finale against Tennessee.
