CINCINNATI (AP) -Bengals right tackle Andre Smith says his benching during a loss to Pittsburgh didn’t hurt his pride.
Coach Marvin Lewis sat him down after he gave up a sack during a 27-21 loss to the Steelers on Monday night. It was the latest setback for Smith, who was a first-round pick last year.
Lewis said on Wednesday that Smith has been making progress overall. The second-year player has started the last three games. He missed most of his rookie season with a broken foot.
He suffered another setback on Wednesday when he got a foot stepped on during practice, forcing him to leave early. The Bengals (2-6) play at Indianapolis (5-3) next Sunday.
