NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -The Tennessee Titans added some depth at defensive tackle Tuesday by signing Demetrin Veal.
The Titans had only Albert Haynesworth, Tony Brown and Randy Starks at defensive tackle after veteran Corey Simon decided to retire Oct. 25.
But Haynesworth strained his right hamstring late in Sunday’s 20-7 win over Carolina, and even though he expects to play, the Titans (6-2) decided to add depth before Sunday’s game against Jacksonville (5-3).
The 6-foot-2, 288-pound Veal has played in 34 NFL games over four seasons with 76 tackles, 2 1/2 sacks, a fumble recovery and a safety. He spent the past two seasons in Denver and played in all 16 games with the Broncos in 2006.
In college, Veal played both end and tackle at Tennessee. He was a seventh-round draft pick by Atlanta in 2003 and played in three games for the Falcons. He was released after the 2004 training camp.
Running back Quinton Ganther had been released on Monday.
