PITTSBURGH (AP) -Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger landed hard on his right leg while throwing a pass in the third quarter with his team leading Baltimore 35-7 on Monday night and left the game.
Roethlisberger rolled out to his right and completed an 45-yard pass to Santonio Holmes before being pushed to the wet turf by the Ravens’ Terrell Suggs with the Steelers driving in the third quarter. Roethlisberger limped off the field, then had his right foot, calf and hip checked by team doctors behind the team bench.
He was not expected to return to the game, but the Steelers did not immediately announce a specific injury.
The injury came in one of the best games of Roethlisberger’s four-season career. He threw five touchdown passes in the first half, tying a team single-game record, as the Steelers took the 28-point lead. He went 11-of-14 for 164 yards before being lifted.
